Text Extraction using AI

Please note this feature is currently live as a trial in Texas only.

We're delighted to introduce our new AI-powered Text Extraction tool within the Custom order form. When you upload images as part of the Recreate with Amends design service, the system will automatically extract any text contained within those images. The extracted text will then be displayed in the order form for your review and any necessary edits prior to submission.

How will this Look?

This feature will only be available through the ‘Recreate or Amend a design’ design service choice, and only on the option ‘I need a design recreated with some amendments’ and ‘upload a file’ as the option for providing context:

Once a supported file type has been uploaded (including PDF, JPG, JPEG, and PNG formats), you will see a highlighted box appear indicating that the system is extracting text from the uploaded files. A small loading icon will be displayed for each file; this will turn green with a check mark once the upload is complete.

Please note that this process will not prevent you from continuing. While the system extracts text, you can proceed to upload additional files, provide any other materials that require updates, and use the free-text box to describe any visual changes you would like made to the design.

After completing this section, you can move on to the Review Order page, which will now appear as follows:

This indicates that the text has been extracted (or is still in the process of being extracted) from the uploaded files. You can then select ‘Review Extracted Text’, which will open a new modal window.

  1. Upload Tiles:
This area displays each uploaded file as a selectable tile. In this example, there is only one upload, but multiple uploads will appear stacked here, allowing you to switch between files that require adjustments.

  2. File Preview:
The preview section shows your uploaded file. PDFs may not display a preview initially, but the text will still be extracted. For multi-page documents, you can navigate between pages to locate the specific areas that need adjustments.

  3. Extracted Text:
The Extracted Text section presents all extracted text in an easy-to-read format. You can scroll through this section to locate the text that needs editing and make adjustments directly by selecting the text on an iPad or clicking with a mouse.

  4. Text Extraction Not Needed:
The ‘Text extraction not needed for this file’ checkbox allows you to indicate that text extraction is not required for a particular upload. This may be used if the image is supportive, related content, or otherwise does not require text extraction. Selecting this option ensures that no text from the image will be made available to the custom admin team or designers.

Once you have made the necessary adjustments to the extracted text and/or indicated that text extraction is not required for any upload(s), you can select ‘Save all changes’. This is a mandatory step, as you must provide an indication of whether text extraction is required or not for each upload before proceeding. After saving, a confirmation will appear to show that your changes or selections have been successfully recorded, and you can then continue to the Checkout page to complete your order.

No Text Detected/Need to Remove your file?

In cases where no text is detected on the image or the upload fails, you can still use the text box to provide your requested text changes. It will appear as follows:

When in the modal, if you select either the ‘X’ or ‘Cancel’ after making changes to the text, your edits won’t be saved. The text will revert to the most recently saved version. For example, if you make a change after extraction but then hit ‘Cancel,’ you’ll see the following:

Selecting ‘Confirm’ will discard any changes made since the last saved version.

Note: This step is mandatory, so you must indicate whether text needs to be extracted or adjusted.

Once this is complete, you will see your updates or selections saved and can proceed to checkout.
